Up and about early, tried for more Hummingbirds
–no great pics.

Looking out to the mountains this morning, the cloud is sitting on top. |
 |
A stunning blue bird. Finally got a shot. |
 |
There's that bloody hummingbird, too far away for any good shots. |
 |
But I was taking whatever I could get. |
 |
He is still there. |
 |
A butterfly, when I went out to see if I could get anything closer. |
 |
More flowers. |
 |
The Hotel. |

Security gate. |

The Front garden with... |

Ox Cart. |
Ready for Carlos’ pick up at 9.00am with our
little bus to the airport. Our flight has been pushed back 25 minutes, so we
arrived plenty of time. Early check in
was painless and customs OK too. Then off to spend those final pesky Colones
and purchase some lunch, as everything is at a cost on these flights (luggage,
snacks, lunch, entertainment etc)
 |
There's Carlos, loading up for the last time. |
 |
Checking in at San Jose Airport. |
 |
Costa Rica...Always in Season. |
 |
Something to take a photo of. |
 |
Well we certainly will remember seeing Sloths. |
 |
They are pretty good on their promotions around the airport. |
 |
Sure did Love CR. |

Killing time at San Jose gate lounge. |
Got caught by a Tourism bloke with a very detailed survey, he kept me
occupied right up until the boarding started, still made it with space in the
overhead lockers for carry on (always a bit of a squeeze, when you see what and
how much some people carry on.)
Finally we rolled off at 1.00pm, with an
uneventful flight to Houston. I sailed through check in using the kiosk and got
waved straight through. Suzie and Glenda were sent from the Kiosk to the
queues, so I had over half an hour waiting for them. Seems Houston is a bit notorious for keeping
people back, but they popped out ok. Then through customs, with some very rude
and unhelpful staff. The Houston airport had some good shopping though, I found
a new pair of noise cancelling headphones (thanks Dad, used the birthday
money.)
We
made our way to a bar for drink as we had a couple of hours to kill. Our ‘server’ was a friendly young girl and we
learnt that today was “Super Tuesday” in the states (or another Super Tuesday,
they have 10 or so) we have been quite curious about the continued popularity
of Trump, yet every American we have spoken too is quite ‘anti’ Trump and are
embarrassed by the fact that he is still well and truly in the race.
I
uploaded some blog and we had some dinner. The bar we were in was out of the
way and nice and quiet, which is most un airport like.
Boarding
was hassle free and on time…but that wasn’t to last. Just at scheduled departure
the pilot indicated some stormy weather out west and a 15 minute delay…almost 2
hours later we finally took off.
The storms are widespread and look awesome
from up here. The clouds are lit by lightning, both sheet and forked. It is a
huge storm cell and I can see far to the front and back of the plane.
I
voted these seats (we are flying United) the most uncomfortable ever – very
upright and not supportive at all (UA – B737-800.) We finally arrived at
McGarran Airport Las Vegas at about 1.30am and to our Hotel about 2.30am.
The
lights flying into Vegas were well worth seeing, flew in over a dark mountain
range and then lights spread for miles as Vegas is a flat and low city apart
from the taller buildings along “The Strip.” I was very surprised how close to
The Strip the airport is.
Our
transfer vehicles had broken down, so they sent a replacement – a huge, mile
long ‘Hummer’ like limo – so we entered Vegas in style.

This was our transfer vehicle..when in Vegas... |
We
arrived at Treasure Island Casino and Hotel, to a very messy check in due to
the fact that we hadn’t arrived on the check in date (ie. We arrived well after
midnight) Finally to our rooms and sorted for bed a bit after 2.30am.
